Jobcenter Move Bochum: The Written Cost Estimate for Your Application
If the Jobcenter is to cover your move, you need a written cost estimate first. D&E Umzüge surveys free of charge, issues the quote and moves you as soon as the approval is in place.
A Jobcenter move is a household relocation whose costs are covered by the Jobcenter once it has approved the move in writing beforehand. Because the office has to decide, it usually requires two or three comparable cost estimates. D&E Umzüge in Bochum supplies one of them: surveyed free of charge, itemised in writing and ready for your application.

What is a Jobcenter move?
A Jobcenter move is a household relocation whose costs are covered by the Jobcenter. This is possible for people receiving Bürgergeld under SGB II. Anyone receiving basic security benefits under SGB XII applies to the social welfare office instead. The procedure is very similar in both cases.
The sequence is what matters. The office confirms that it will cover the moving costs before the move, and the application for that approval includes cost estimates from moving companies. Anyone who moves first and applies afterwards usually ends up paying out of pocket.
The term Hartz 4 move is still common in everyday language. Since January 2023 the benefit has been called Bürgergeld, but it refers to the same procedure. D&E Umzüge is the moving company carrying it out: we prepare the cost estimate and carry out the move. Approval is granted exclusively by your responsible Jobcenter.
What is included in a Jobcenter move?
The cost estimate reflects exactly the services that will be carried out later. That way the Jobcenter can compare the quotes and you know in advance what will happen on moving day.
- Free survey Survey of the items to be moved on site or by video call, including floor level, access and parking situation at both addresses.
- Written cost estimate Every position named individually and itemised transparently, so the office can compare the offers directly.
- Packing materials and moving boxes Delivered before the moving date, unused boxes collected after the move.
- Packing and unpacking service Professional packing of crockery, glassware, pictures and delicate items.
- Furniture dismantling and reassembly Wardrobes, beds and shelving are dismantled, transported and rebuilt at the destination.
- Parking suspension zone Applied for with the authority and signs put up in good time at both addresses.
- Transport and outdoor furniture lift Our own fleet; an outdoor lift is available for narrow stairwells and upper floors.
- Clear-out and disposal Whatever does not move with you is disposed of professionally, so that the old home can be handed over broom-clean.
How does a Jobcenter move with D&E Umzüge work?
Six steps from the initial enquiry to the handover. Steps two and three are the ones you need us for; step four is the office's job.
-
Enquiry
You tell us the floor area, the floors, your preferred date and the new address, and that the move is going through the Jobcenter. We then prepare the quote in the right format from the start.
-
Free survey
D&E Umzüge records the scope of the items to be moved and checks access routes, stairwell and parking situation at both addresses, on site or by video call.
-
Receive the cost estimate
You receive a written quote that lists every service individually, in the format the Jobcenter needs for its review.
-
Apply for approval with the Jobcenter
You submit the estimate together with the other quotes required and wait for the written approval.
-
Moving day
Once the approval is in place the date is confirmed. The team packs, dismantles, loads, transports and rebuilds everything at the destination.
-
Invoice and handover
You receive an invoice matching the approved estimate, for submission to the Jobcenter.
Who is a Jobcenter move suitable for?
Typical situations in which the Jobcenter approves a move. Whether your case is one of them is decided by your responsible Jobcenter.
Request to reduce costs
The Jobcenter considers your current home too expensive and asks you to move into a more appropriate home.
Change in the household
A growing family, a member moving out or a separation: the current home no longer matches the size of the household.
Move because of a new job
A new position in a different city makes the change of address necessary.

Frequently asked questions about a Jobcenter move
When does the Jobcenter pay for a move?
The Jobcenter generally covers moving costs if the move is necessary and has been approved in writing beforehand.
The question of necessity is always decided by the responsible Jobcenter, not by the moving company. D&E Umzüge provides the cost estimate you submit for that decision.
How do I apply for a move with the Jobcenter?
Before the move you submit an application for approval of housing acquisition and moving costs, and attach the required cost estimates.
A moving company should only be commissioned once the written approval is in place. Anyone who moves first and applies afterwards usually ends up paying out of pocket.
How many cost estimates does the Jobcenter require?
Most Jobcenters require two or three comparable cost estimates.
The exact number is set by your responsible Jobcenter. It is best to ask there before you obtain the quotes.
What does a cost estimate for the Jobcenter need to contain?
The cost estimate states both addresses, the scope of the household and the services included, with every position itemised individually.
That way the Jobcenter can compare the submitted quotes directly, without having to ask you any questions.
When can the Jobcenter refuse a move?
A refusal is possible if the Jobcenter does not consider the move necessary or does not regard the new home as appropriate.
The decision is made by the Jobcenter on a case-by-case basis. Approval should therefore always be obtained before you commit to the home.
Which Jobcenter is responsible for a move?
Before the move it is the Jobcenter at your previous address, and after the move the Jobcenter at your new address.
When you move to a different city, both are usually involved.
Is it called a Hartz 4 move or a Bürgergeld move?
Since January 2023 the benefit has been called Bürgergeld. The term Hartz 4 move is still used colloquially.
It refers to the same procedure: a move whose costs are covered by the Jobcenter. Anyone receiving basic security benefits under SGB XII applies to the social welfare office.
How quickly does D&E Umzüge prepare the cost estimate?
After the survey you receive the written cost estimate shortly, so that you can submit it to the Jobcenter without delay.
The survey itself is free of charge and takes place on site or by video call.
