What counts as packing materials?

Packing materials are everything needed to pack a household safely: boxes in various sizes and formats, padding, tape and blankets to protect furniture. Unlike the packing service, D&E Umzüge supplies only the materials here, and you do the packing.

What matters is less the quantity than the selection. Books belong in small boxes, because large ones become impossible to lift. Crockery needs double-walled cartons and padding. Hanging clothes go into wardrobe boxes that take the hanger and remove the need to repack at all.

D&E Umzüge estimates during the survey how many boxes of which type are needed and delivers them in good time before the packing date. Unused boxes go straight back and empty ones are collected after the move, so nothing is left standing in the new home.

Scope of service

What does the supply include?

You get materials matched to your household rather than a standard bundle.

  • Moving boxes Sturdy standard boxes with handholds for the bulk of your belongings.
  • Book boxes A smaller format, so the weight stays carryable and the base holds.
  • Dish barrels Double-walled, with inserts and padding for glassware and china.
  • Wardrobe boxes With a rail for hanging garments, so clothes stay on their hangers.
  • Picture cartons For pictures, mirrors and glass panels that have to travel upright.
  • Padding and tape Bubble wrap, packing paper, stretch film, tape and labelling markers.
  • Furniture blankets To protect surfaces and edges during transport and storage.
  • Delivery and collection Delivered before the packing date, with unused and empty boxes taken back.
Process

How does the supply of packing materials work?

The supply runs in four steps, timed around your packing date.

  1. Estimate the quantity

During the survey, or from the floor area, it is estimated how many boxes of which type are needed.

  2. Agree the delivery date

Materials are timed to arrive before packing starts, without blocking your home for weeks.

  3. Delivery

Boxes and accessories are carried into the home, not just left at the front door.

  4. Return

Unused boxes go straight back, and empty ones are collected after the move.

Use cases

Who is the material supply for?

It is the right choice if you want to pack yourself but would rather not assemble materials from several sources.

Self-packers with time

Packing is manageable, but sourcing the right materials is tedious and hard to judge.

A partial packing service

You pack books and clothes yourself and hand over the kitchen. Materials are supplied for both.

Storage

Storage calls for sturdier materials and more padding than a short transport does.

Why get packing materials from D&E Umzüge?

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about packing materials

How much do packing materials cost?

The price depends on the type and quantity of materials and on whether boxes are returned. With a booked move the supply is normally part of the fixed-price quote and is listed separately within it.

How many moving boxes do I need?

As a rule of thumb, allow ten to twelve boxes per person in an average household. The actual number depends heavily on how many books, dishes and clothes there are. The figure is confirmed during the survey.

What is the difference from the packing service?

With packing materials only the materials are delivered and you pack yourself. With the packing service the team does the packing. The two combine well, for instance if you only hand over the kitchen. Details under Packing and unpacking.

Which box suits what?

Books go into small book boxes, crockery into double-walled dish barrels, hanging clothes into wardrobe boxes. The most common mistake is filling large boxes with books. They can neither be carried nor stacked safely, and the base tears.

When are the materials delivered?

In good time before the packing date, usually a few days ahead. Delivering too early blocks the home for weeks; too late leaves no time to pack. The date is therefore set against the start of packing.

Are unused boxes taken back?

Yes. Boxes you do not need go straight back and are not charged. For that reason delivery errs on the generous side, so that no top-up run is needed midway through packing.

Are empty boxes collected after the move?

Yes. Empty boxes and packing materials are collected after unpacking. The collection date is arranged for a few days after the move, so you can unpack at your own pace.

Are there materials for fragile items?

Yes. Picture cartons, bubble wrap, packing paper and furniture blankets are all part of the range. For collections, art or particularly valuable belongings the packing service is the safer choice, because the packing itself makes the difference.
