External furniture lift for your move
When the sofa will not go through the stairwell, the way out is the shorter route.
An external furniture lift is an extendable transport platform that carries belongings up the outside of a building via a window or balcony. D&E Umzüge uses one where stairwells are too narrow, lifts are missing, or bulky items would otherwise not fit into the property.

What is an external furniture lift?
An external furniture lift, often simply called a moving lift or hoist, is an inclined platform mounted on a vehicle or trailer and extended up the outside of the building to the required floor. Furniture and boxes travel on the platform and are taken in through a window or balcony.
The lift replaces the stairwell wherever the stairwell reaches its limits: tight turns, low ceilings, missing lifts or lift cars no sofa will fit into. From the second floor upwards it is often not only faster but also the gentler option for both the furniture and the stairwell.
D&E Umzüge checks in advance whether there is sufficiently large standing space outside the building and whether window or balcony offer the necessary width. A no-parking zone is usually arranged at the same time, so that the standing space is genuinely free on moving day.
What does the supply include?
The lift is not simply hired out; it comes with setup, operation and dismantling.
- Feasibility check Standing space, height, window and balcony dimensions and obstacles such as trees or cables are checked.
- No-parking zone for the standing space Applied for and signposted, so that the area outside the building is free on moving day.
- Delivery and setup The lift is brought to site, positioned and prepared for use.
- Operation by the team The lift is operated exclusively by trained personnel.
- Receiving at the window Part of the team works inside the property and takes the load at the window or balcony.
- Transport of bulky items Sofas, wardrobes, mattresses and instruments that will not fit through the stairwell.
- Use at both addresses On request both when moving out and when moving in.
- Dismantling and removal After the move the lift is dismantled and taken away.
How is an external furniture lift used?
Use of the lift runs in four steps and is always planned together with the moving date.
-
Assessment during the survey
It is settled whether a lift is needed, whether standing space exists and which window will be used.
-
Apply for the no-parking zone
The area outside the building is kept clear, otherwise a parked vehicle will be in the way on moving day.
-
Setup on moving day
The lift is positioned and extended up to the required floor.
-
The move and dismantling
Furniture and boxes travel via the lift and the team receives them at the window. It is then dismantled.
When does an external furniture lift make sense?
A lift is worthwhile whenever the stairwell slows the move down or threatens damage.
Upper floors without a lift
From the second floor upwards a lift saves noticeable time and spares both the stairwell and your back.
Narrow or winding stairs
Period stairwells with tight turns simply will not take sofas or large wardrobes.
Bulky single items
A piano, an aquarium or an oversized couch that would otherwise have to be dismantled.
Why arrange the lift through D&E Umzüge?
Checked, not improvised
Whether a lift can be used is settled during the survey rather than on moving day.

Frequently asked questions about the external furniture lift
How much does an external furniture lift cost?
The price depends on how long the lift is needed, the height involved and whether it is required at one address or both. D&E Umzüge states the supply separately in the written fixed-price quote, including setup, operation and dismantling.
From which floor is a lift worthwhile?
As a rule from the second floor upwards, and earlier where stairwells are narrow. What decides it is not the floor alone but the combination of height, stair width and the size of the furniture.
How much space is needed outside the building?
A clear standing area outside, the size of which depends on the type of lift. That is why a no-parking zone is almost always arranged at the same time. Without a clear area the lift cannot be set up.
Does the window have to be a certain size?
Yes. The window or balcony door has to be wide enough for the items to pass through. The dimensions are checked during the survey. If that window will not do, another one in the same room is considered.
Can the lift be used in any weather?
No. Safe operation is not possible in strong wind or storms. In such cases the stairwell is used instead or the date is moved. That decision is made on site on moving day.
Who operates the lift?
Exclusively trained personnel from D&E Umzüge. Part of the team works inside the property at the same time and takes the load at the window or balcony.
Is transport by lift safe for the furniture?
Yes, and in many cases gentler than the route through a narrow stairwell. Items are secured on the platform. Damage via stairs, by contrast, tends to occur on edges, door frames and banisters.
Will the lift be needed at the new address too?
Often yes, where there are also narrow stairs or upper floors there. Both addresses are checked during the survey. Supply at two addresses is stated separately in the quote.
