Storage in Bochum and the Ruhr area
Moving out and moving in rarely fall on the same day. D&E Umzüge bridges the gap, from collection to delivery at the new address.
Storage means that furniture and household goods are kept temporarily in a secured facility, usually because there is a gap between moving out and moving in. D&E Umzüge collects your belongings, records them on a numbered inventory list, stores them dry and locked, and delivers them to the new address on the agreed date.

What is storage during a move?
Storage is the temporary housing of furniture and household goods in a secured facility. It almost always accompanies a move and bridges the period in which the old home has already been handed back but the new one cannot be occupied yet.
The reason is usually mundane and still unavoidable: one tenancy ends at the end of the month, the next begins halfway through the following one. Renovations, delayed building handovers and a spell abroad between two homes regularly mean belongings need somewhere to go for a few weeks.
D&E Umzüge collects everything directly on moving out, so no second transport is needed. Every item of furniture and every box is numbered and recorded on an inventory list. On the agreed date it is all delivered to the new address and, on request, reassembled.
What is included in storage?
Storage is usually booked together with the move, but can also be arranged on its own.
- Collection on moving out Belongings go straight from the old address into storage, with no interim stop and no second transport.
- Numbered inventory list Every item of furniture and every box is recorded, so it stays clear what went into storage.
- Proper packing Upholstered furniture is wrapped, delicate surfaces covered and edges protected.
- Furniture dismantling Large pieces are taken apart for storage, which saves space and avoids transport damage.
- Dry, locked storage Belongings are stored separately by job and protected against moisture.
- Access by arrangement Individual items can be retrieved by appointment, without moving the whole consignment.
- Delivery on your date Belongings are brought to the new address, carried inside and placed room by room.
- Furniture reassembly Dismantled furniture is rebuilt and positioned at the destination.

Who is storage for?
Storage makes sense whenever a gap opens up between two homes or two premises.
A gap between tenancies
The old contract ends at the end of the month, the new one starts later. Belongings need somewhere to go for a few weeks.
Renovation work
The new home is still being painted or floored. Furniture stays out of the way and undamaged in the meantime.
Businesses between premises
Office furniture, files and stock wait in storage until the new space is handed over ready to use.

How do you prepare for storage?
The clearer it is beforehand what goes into storage and for how long, the simpler the later delivery becomes.
-
4 weeks before
Set the rough storage period. The delivery date can still move; the collection date should be fixed.
-
3 weeks before
Have D&E Umzüge assess the volume and decide what actually goes into storage.
-
2 weeks before
Sort out what is no longer needed at all. Storing something costs more than disposing of it if nobody wants to keep it.
-
1 week before
Mark items you might need during the storage period, so they can be stored within easy reach.
-
On collection day
Keep documents, valuables, medication and electronics with you rather than putting them into storage.

Frequently asked questions about storage
How much does storage cost?
The price depends on the volume in cubic metres, the length of storage and the cost of collection and delivery. D&E Umzüge issues a written quote after the volume assessment, listing collection, the storage period and delivery separately.
What is the difference between storage and long-term storage?
Storage bridges a gap during a move and usually lasts days to a few months. Long-term storage is a service in its own right, spanning months or years. If you do not yet know when you want your belongings back, Interim and long-term storage is the right service.
How long can belongings stay in storage?
From a few days to several months, depending on what is agreed. For longer periods the arrangement switches to long-term storage, because different terms and a different storage format make more sense there.
Can I access my belongings during the storage period?
Yes, individual items can be retrieved by appointment. For that to work without much effort, say at collection which pieces you might need. They are then stored within easy reach.
How do you make sure nothing goes missing?
Every item of furniture and every box is numbered and recorded on an inventory list. You receive the list after collection. At delivery, the same list is used to check off what is being returned.
How are belongings stored?
Dry, locked and kept separate by job, so your household goods are not mixed with anyone else's. Large furniture is dismantled for storage, upholstered pieces wrapped and delicate surfaces covered.
Are stored belongings insured?
Statutory liability applies. For valuable belongings, additional cover can be arranged. The basis is the inventory list, on which every item is recorded. Raise the value of what is being stored before collection.
Can I book storage without booking a move?
Yes. Collection, storage and delivery can be booked without an accompanying move. In practice, combining it with the move is cheaper, because your belongings are handled and transported only once.
