Definition

What is the packing and unpacking service?

The packing service is the labour involved in packing, as distinct from simply supplying materials. With packing materials, boxes and wrapping are delivered and you pack yourself. With the packing service, the team does the packing, the labelling and, on request, the unpacking later.

The effort involved is routinely underestimated. A household of four fills well over a hundred boxes, and the kitchen cupboards alone take half a day. Because packing almost always happens in the evening after work, it drags on for weeks and is still unfinished on moving day.

D&E Umzüge packs in one to two working days what otherwise consumes several weekends. Every box is numbered and assigned to its destination room, so nothing has to be hunted for later. On request everything is put away again and the packing materials collected afterwards.

Scope of service

What is included in packing and unpacking?

Book the whole household, or only the areas that create the most work.

  • Kitchen and crockery Glasses, china and cutlery are wrapped individually and packed upright in dish barrels.
  • Clothing and textiles Hanging garments go into wardrobe boxes and stay on their hangers; bed linen is used as padding.
  • Books and files Books go into small, carryable boxes and folders stay in their existing order.
  • Pictures, mirrors and glass Delicate surfaces get edge protection and travel upright in picture cartons.
  • Electronics Devices are photographed, cables labelled and, where available, original packaging used.
  • Room-by-room labelling Every box carries a number, its destination room and a note on the contents.
  • Unpacking at the destination Boxes are emptied, contents put into cupboards and shelves, and the rooms handed over ready to use.
  • Collection of materials Empty boxes and packing materials are collected and disposed of after unpacking.
Process

How does packing and unpacking with D&E Umzüge work?

The packing service with D&E Umzüge runs in five steps, spread across the days before and after the move.

  1. Agree the scope

During the survey it is decided whether the whole household is packed or only areas such as the kitchen and cellar.

  2. Materials delivered

Boxes, dish barrels, wardrobe boxes, wrapping and labelling materials arrive before the packing date.

  3. Packing

The team packs room by room, wraps fragile items individually and labels every box with a number and destination room.

  4. The move

Boxes are loaded and placed directly in the intended room at the destination, rather than stacked in the hallway.

  5. Unpacking and collection

On request everything is put away again. Empty boxes and packing materials are then collected.

Use cases

Who is the packing service for?

The packing service pays off whenever time is scarcer than budget, or packing yourself is simply not possible.

Moving alongside a full-time job

Between work and family there are two hours an evening. The packing service replaces several weekends.

A move at short notice

There is simply no time to pack in advance. With an express move the packing service is included as standard anyway.

Fragile or valuable belongings

Collections, china, art and glass are wrapped properly and marked separately.

Why choose D&E Umzüge for packing?

The same team packs and loads

Whoever packs also loads, so on moving day it is known what sits in which box and how it should be handled.

Everything from one provider

Materials, packing, transport, assembly and collection without additional contractors.

Fixed price, not an hourly rate

The price is confirmed in writing after the survey rather than billed by how long packing takes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about packing and unpacking

How much does the packing service cost?

The price depends on floor area, the volume of belongings and whether you want only packing or unpacking as well. D&E Umzüge issues a written fixed-price quote after the survey. Billing is at the agreed price rather than by how long packing actually takes.

What is the difference between the packing service and packing materials?

With the packing service the team packs your belongings. With packing materials only boxes, wrapping and accessories are delivered and you pack yourself. The two combine well, for instance if you pack books and clothing yourself and hand over only the kitchen. Details under Packing materials.

How long does packing take?

A three-room flat is usually packed in one working day, larger households in two. Packing happens one to two days before the move itself, so that moving day is spent only on loading.

Do I have to be present while packing?

You should be there at the start, to point out what needs special handling or should not be packed at all. After that your presence is not required. Valuables, documents and medication should be kept separate and transported by you in any case.

Is the kitchen packed too?

Yes. Crockery, glassware and china are wrapped individually and packed upright in dish barrels. The kitchen is consistently the most time-consuming room and the most common reason for booking the packing service at all.

How do I find things again afterwards?

Every box is numbered, assigned to its destination room and labelled with a note on the contents. At the destination, boxes are placed directly in the intended room rather than stacked in the hallway. That saves most of the effort when putting things away.

Are the packing materials collected afterwards?

Yes. Empty boxes and packing materials are collected and disposed of after unpacking. If you would rather unpack yourself, a collection date is arranged for a few days after the move.

Can I have only certain rooms packed?

Yes. The packing service can be limited to individual areas, such as the kitchen, cellar or study. That is the most common arrangement: many people pack clothing and books themselves and leave crockery and collections to the team.
