An international relocation is a move across a national border, in which an entire household or part of it is taken to another country. Within the European Union the process resembles a domestic move; outside it, a customs declaration and a complete inventory list are added.
The decisive difference lies in planning the volume. Because transport is calculated in cubic metres, the question of what actually travels bears directly on the price. It is often cheaper to sell bulky furniture and replace it at the destination than to move it a thousand kilometres.

How much does an international relocation cost?

What is the difference between a shared load and a dedicated load?
With a shared load your belongings travel alongside other consignments; with a dedicated load the vehicle runs for you alone. A shared load is considerably cheaper, but you receive a delivery window rather than a fixed delivery date. For whole households a dedicated load is usually the better choice.
How long does an international relocation take?
Within Europe, a few days to around two weeks pass between collection and delivery, depending on destination and load type. With a shared load the window is longer, because the route bundles several consignments. The binding window is stated in the quote.
Which documents does customs require?
No customs declaration is required within the European Union. Outside it, household goods are normally declared as personal removal goods. That requires a numbered inventory list and evidence that you are transferring your residence, among other things. D&E Umzüge prepares the documents, but the destination country sets the requirements.
Is it worth taking all the furniture?
Not always. Because pricing is based on cubic metres, volume bears directly on the cost. For bulky standard furniture, replacing it at the destination is often cheaper than shipping it. What is worth taking is discussed during the survey.
How are belongings insured in transit?
The statutory liability of the moving company applies. For long journeys, additional transport insurance is recommended. The basis for this is the inventory list, in which every item is recorded. Report damage at delivery so that it is noted in the protocol.
Can belongings be stored in the meantime?
Yes, in the country of origin as well as at the destination. This is the norm when the new home is only ready later. Details under Storage.
Is the furniture reassembled at the destination?
Yes. Reassembly is part of the service, and unpacking and removal of packing materials can be added on request. Assembly is carried out by a team on the ground that is familiar with local conditions.
